Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has introduced a new policy for Pakistani students applying to undergraduate medical and dental programs abroad, effective from the 2024-2025 academic session.

Moreover, this policy outlines several mandatory conditions for admission to foreign institutions. To qualify under the new policy, students must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Achieve at least 60% in FSC (Pre-Medical) from Pakistan.
  • Score a minimum of 550 in each subject of SAT-II.
  • Pass a foreign MCAT/UCAT with at least 50% in Biology, Chemistry, and either Mathematics or Physics in a Higher Secondary School Certificate or equivalent.

Additionally, students must secure at least 50% in the MDCAT conducted in Pakistan, with results valid for three years.

They must also ensure their chosen institution is listed on the PMDC’s approved institutions list and is recognised by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) or listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.

The new policy mandates that students obtain a PMDC Student Registration Certificate before commencing studies abroad. The medical program must include at least 6,200 hours of instruction over five years, with a minimum attendance of 80%.

In addition, in non-English-speaking countries, students are required to spend at least six months learning the local language and pass the National Registration Examination conducted by the PMDC for full registration.

Furthermore, students must provide residence details and contact numbers for their study country and secure a multiple-entry visa valid for the duration of their studies.
