The Government of Pakistan has announced substantial financial assistance and rehabilitation grants of Rs5 million per person to the families of missing persons.
Moreover, this decision is expected to be formally announced in an upcoming cabinet meeting.
Government sources highlighted that the purpose of this financial aid is to support the impacted families and is not intended as compensation, but rather as a rehabilitation award.
In addition, sources stated that efforts are still on to handle the remaining 22% of missing people cases, of which 78% have been addressed in recent years. To address this issue, all governmental institutions are implementing stringent measures.

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar clarified that the package is intended as support and not compensation, stating, “If the missing person returns, there will be no amount to claim.” He noted that the cabinet has approved a Rs5 million support package for each affected family, acknowledging the human problems linked to this issue.
Additionally, Tarar also mentioned that crucial recommendations from various committees have been approved by the cabinet. Reports from two committees related to missing persons were presented, and the government has engaged with the families to address their concerns and suggestions.
The minister highlighted the efforts of the special committee set up by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government, which has been actively working on this issue.
Furthermore, the Missing Persons Commission, operational for 13 years, has successfully resolved 78% of the cases in recent years, with continued efforts to resolve the remaining 22%.
