Concerns about Pakistani expats have been raised by a number of Gulf nations. Concerns have been expressed by Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Saudi Arabia over the actions and behavior of Pakistani employees in gulf nations.

Secretary Dr. Arshad disclosed these concerns during a briefing to the Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis. These concerns include a high rate of crime involvement, with Pakistanis making up 50% of all crimes in the UAE, and inappropriate behavior in the country, where Pakistani expatriates have reportedly made videos in front of women.

The briefing also highlighted that Pakistani expatriates are increasingly facing challenges in the Gulf region. For instance, Saudi Arabia has asked Pakistan to stop sending “beggars and sick people,” while Qatar has complained about Pakistani laborers refusing to wear safety helmets. Kuwait has faced issues with Pakistani nurses refusing to perform certain duties and seeking transfers to Europe after only six months.

The report also noted that out of the approximately 600,000 to 800,000 Pakistanis traveling abroad each year, 96% go to Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

However, there are reports of Pakistani workers being replaced by cheaper labor from Africa, which is impacting employment opportunities for Pakistanis.

In response, the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis is taking steps to address these challenges. A cabinet committee led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been formed to tackle immigration issues, and efforts are being made to enhance the skill levels of Pakistani workers to improve their international standing.
