An AI system has been launched in Lahore to manage 19 types of traffic violations, issuing e-challans to those who break the rules.

The Lahore Traffic Police have established dedicated teams to target vehicles with outstanding violations as part of a citywide enforcement effort.

The violations include jumping signals, improper lane usage, and failing to wear seat belts or helmets. On the previous day alone, 12,948 e-challans were issued for these infractions.

Chief Traffic Officer Amara Athar explained that surveillance cameras are employed to monitor the performance of traffic wardens, enhancing traffic management and safety through technological means.

She noted that South Asia is witnessing the debut of an AI system that issues e-challans for a wide range of 19 traffic offenses.

The AI system, developed in partnership with Safe City and Traffic Police, is designed to enhance traffic enforcement efficiency. The CTO also reported that, among the e-challans issued, 3,874 were for helmet violations, 4,041 for lane and line infringements, 3 for signal breaches, and 245 for driving in the wrong direction.
