Weekly inflation rises ahead of federal budget

WEB DESK: Weekly inflation has started to rise again, before the federal budget. Over the past week, prices of 19 essential items, including potatoes, onions, tomatoes, bananas, and chicken, have increased.

The inflation rate for this week increased by 0.45%, according to the weekly report issued by the Bureau of Statistics.

Moreover, according to the weekly report released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the annual inflation rate every week was recorded at 21.69%.

The Sensitive Price Index (SPI) reviews the prices of 51 essential items from 50 markets in 17 cities. Over the week, prices of 19 items increased, 14 decreased, and 18 remained stable.

According to the PBS, during the recent week, the price of onions increased by 33.39 rupees per kilogram, tomatoes by 10.06 rupees, chickpeas by 7.75 rupees, live chicken by 5.91 rupees, and black gram by 5.94 rupees per kilogram.

Additionally, it was reported that the price of bananas increased by 7.26 rupees per dozen over the week, and there were also increases in the prices of fresh milk, mutton, and potatoes.

As per PBS, the price of Basmati rice decreased by 2.79 rupees per kilogram, eggs by 2.27 rupees per dozen, and a 20-kilogram bag of flour by 13.65 rupees. Moreover, prices of sugar, mung beans, and red chilies also decreased.
