A 10-year-old boy in Wisconsin made an unusual call to 911, seeking help with his math homework when his family couldn’t provide answers.

Homework help call

The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office shared the heartwarming incident on social media. The young caller explained to dispatcher Kim Krause that he was struggling with a challenging math problem involving decimals and said, “My family isn’t very good at math either.”

Although Krause informed him that 911 was not the correct number to call for homework help, she took the time to listen. When the problem proved too complex, she reached out to Deputy Sheriff Chase Mason, who was patrolling nearby.

Mason, who has a stepson the same age as the caller, decided to step in. Despite admitting he wasn’t highly skilled in math, Mason visited the boy’s home and helped him solve the homework problem.

“Our young caller was provided a business card and assured that we are always here to help,” Mason said in his report. He also advised the child to use the non-emergency line in similar situations in the future.

The sheriff’s office used the story to highlight the human side of their work, emphasizing that their duty extends beyond emergencies. “This was a chance to connect with the community and leave a positive impression on a young mind,” said Sheriff George Lenzner.
